One thing that stirs a lot of debate among those who try to earn money at home on their computers is the value of taking online surveys for pay. Some say these are worthless, offering you only pennies for participation, while others almost seem to imply you’ll get rich by taking them.
As with so many things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Very few people make enough money by taking online surveys to make it a full-time job - much less to get wealthy. However, there are far more people who significantly add to their income through the practice than you might think. The difference: They have learned some tricks that help them lower the amount of time they spend with each survey, and thus, increase their hourly rate. Here are some of these tips that you should keep in mind:
1) Set up a PayPal account, if the site offers payment this way. This will save you the time and hassle of going to the bank to deposit or cash a check.
2) You need a separate email account just for your paid surveys. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it’s too easy to lose or overlook a survey if it’s overwhelmed by other email. Also, you’ll be more likely to forget to check your “spam” folder if they’re with the rest of your mail.
3) Don’t just launch in, taking any surveys you happen to come across. You need to research and find which ones are legit and which ones pay out the most. This is difficult to do, so try to find people who are being successful with surveys. Don’t just take the word of someone posting in a blog somewhere, who also happens to be trying to make some money by linking you to their site. Find emails of people who are doing surveys and actually engage them in a conversation. Check out legit news sites that offer legit links for work-at-home opportunities. Any paid online surveys you find there will likely be bigger money-makers.
4) Once you’ve got a list of several survey sites that you trust, bookmark them. You’d be surprised how many people decide they’ll just try to remember the site in the future. Most of them are wrong. Once you’ve got the sites bookmarked, you can create a routine of visiting each of them every day.
5) Remember, you want to get as many surveys done in an hour as you can, so try to work speedily. This means you want to be seated comfortably with no distractions. And don’t go off on a tangent with any questions. Answer the questions as briefly as possible without shortchanging the survey itself.
6) On the other hand, don’t try to get finished too fast. Some survey-takers have a method in place to determine if you just answered anything in order to get through the survey fast. If they detect that you’re one of those people, they might not let you take future surveys.
7) And finally, try to track down a program (such as RoboForm) that stores your personal information so that, when you come to a form (such as with an online survey), it fills in this information quickly and automatically. Many such programs are free and can be downloaded from Download.com.
These suggestions will not get you rich - but they will help you make the most of your daily survey time, so that you don’t spend a lot of time making a little money. But anyway, paid surveys are not the only method to make money online. There are other ways, too.
